Regenerate space . create space for regeneration

creating a space for regeneration and relaxation in a 100 year old building.

dealing with a lot of challenges an old building has to offer from low ceiling heights over different floor levels and aspects of accessibility for disabled people. 5 month of work on site lead to a successful transition of this space. I kept my promise to deliver a clean, functional, fresh and modern space, where clients can calm down and recover without the feeling to be in a basement level.

Goal was to combine warm materials with clean industrial style for all technical equipment because we had no chance to hide that in false ceiling or wall space. Keep the space as open as possible with free view outside into the garden space from almost every corner inside the basement level.

Clear lines, clean surfaces, modern, simple and calm look. Pine wood panels combined with cork floors, terrazzo-style tiles, breathable lime plaster in a rustic style. Some walls were given vertical plastering to give the space a feeling of more height, and openings such as old doors and windows inside the rooms were given back the old style of framing with rounded corners to make all the rooms flow smoothly into each other.

Nature once again plays a major role in the concept, with 2 additional steel supports acting as an abstract tree trunk in the centre of the room. Natural materials in their natural shades combined with fresh pastel colours give a feeling of freshness, lightness and generosity. The window reveals were given a fresh coat of yellow paint to brighten up the room and allow as much natural sunlight as possible into the interior through the small window openings. We tried to get the best out of the existing structure in terms of design and construction.
